History

1984

The office fs|architekten was founded on 01.01.1984 under the name Funk & Schröder by Alois Funk and Paul Schröder. Both partners are graduates of the TU Darmstadt and were also employed there as lecturers and research assistants with Prof. Bächer and Prof. Behnisch.

1990

Soon after the founding of the office and the first small commissions, larger contracts were acquired through competition successes in Mainz and Frankfurt a.M.. The winning design for the renovation of the historic Frankfurter Hof in Mainz and the realisation of the project established the national reputation of the Funk & Schröder office.

1990

In mid-1986, the office moved to larger premises at Bismarckstraße 23, where the staff quickly grew to about 12 employees. Numerous projects were worked on, such as kindergartens, sports halls, residential buildings, etc. In 1990, the Griesheim day-care centre was realised as a solar, sustainable and energy-saving building with numerous international publications.

1997–1999

The challenging general planning contract for the refurbishment of the Neckermann AG service centre in Frankfurt establishes a new era in which the office gains new planning partners and acquires an extensive and valuable wealth of experience.

2001

Numerous projects for new clients followed, such as Fraport AG and the company CIBA Vision in Großwallstadt, from which a successful collaboration developed over many years.

2004

In the planning partnership with the winner of the architectural competition for the new building of the Science and Congress Centre in Darmstadt, Talik Chalabi, a highly complex large-scale project is planned and realised in the years 2004 - 2007, which lays the foundation for further valuable business relations.

2006

From October 2006, Paul Schröder continues to run the office alone under the name fs-architekten, and in November 2007 the office moves to new, modern premises on Friedensplatz. There is room for about 30 employees.

2009

In addition to the daily business in Germany, acquisitions in Russia lead to interesting contracts in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

This was also the beginning of the cooperation with LaboTech Planungs GmbH, which continues to this day, in the realisation of laboratory and production buildings for CIBA Vision, Bayer, Sanofi and CSL Behring.

2022

The office transforms to fs-architekten GmbH. Partners and managing directors are the long-time employees Dipl. Ing. Architect Britt Thieme and Dipl. Ing. Architect Gregor Kahlau as successors to Paul Schröder.
