Fraport Visitor Service

Airport Frankfurt am Main | 2009

Client: Fraport AG
Hoai Phases: 1–9

As part of the redesign of Level 0 of Terminal 1, the visitor service was relocated from its current location on the FAC bridge to a rented space in the future Airport City Mall. It is used to book airport adventure tours, as well as to provide information and serve as a starting point for tours.

The visitor service is conceived as an extension of the circulation area, which is made clear by a uniform floor covering. The side walls of the space are designed as luminous surfaces to make the small space appear visually larger.

The main component of the visitor service is the counter, which integrates the computer, cash register, card printer and telephone, as well as various compartments and drawers. A work surface, which allows the operation of the equipment even while sitting, can be folded upwards, hiding the interior of the counter outside opening hours. The front and sides are covered by a small-scale mosaic consisting of yellow and black tiles, reminiscent of the pattern on "Follow-Me" vehicles.

A freestanding wall element of smooth white Corian that encompasses the counter includes info monitors and shelving for brochures and flyers. Its curved shape is reminiscent of wings or airfoils, creating associations with air travel and airport operations.
