Transfer Baggage Center B-West

Airport Frankfurt am Main | 2010–2012

Client: Fraport AG

In order to cope with the growing air traffic and thus the increased volume of baggage at Frankfurt Airport, the baggage handling systems (GFA) have to be constantly adapted to the changing requirements. Thus, an additional transfer baggage center was built in Pier B-West of Terminal 1, through which the baggage of transferring passengers is routed from one aircraft to another.

The existing B-West baggage drop-off point was expanded to include two additional transfer drop-off points and a transfer pick-up point. The most complex measure was the construction of the GFA ducts including civil engineering up to 6.50 m within building 207 and the connection to the GFA tunnel ("main artery") during ongoing operations.
